Mexican Recycler BASURAMA Uses Foam Densifier to Improve Recycling Efficiency

This year marks the twelfth year of the Recicla Unicel initiative. The initiative aims to promote foam recycling in Mexico. It is estimated that 17 million plates, glasses, trays, and foam containers are recycled every day in Mexico. With this publicity and promotion, foam recycling rates in Mexico were relatively high.

BASURAMA is a Mexican recycler that mainly recycles industrial waste, plastics, cartons, etc. The company has signed a recycling contract with the local assembly plant and has a large amount of foam packaging materials. As of now, the total monthly volume is about 70 tons, including 6-8 tons of EPS per month, and the rest is EPE foam. Previously, BASURAMA would sell foam waste directly to the construction industry, but at a lower price. With the continuous development of business, BASURAMA has cooperated with more customers, and the amount of waste has increased, so the storage pressure of their warehouse is very high. Therefore, the company urgently needed to find an efficient foam treatment solution.

Foam recycling in Mexico is relatively popular, so after reading about hot melting solutions, BASURAMA looked online for equipment. GREENMAX foam densifier from INTCO Recycling, sold around the world, is a topped foam recycling solution. After a discussion with the INTCO team, BASURAMA learned that INTCO has more than 15 years of foam compression experience and extensive foam recycling experience in different categories. Then after visiting other local customers who had purchased GREENMAX foam densifier, BASURAMA ordered an M-C200E to dispose of their foam waste.

BASURAMA was delighted with the machine. The foam densifier, ordered from INTCO, reduces foam volume to 1/50 through a crushing, hot-melting, and extrusion process. In addition, compressed ingots, which are needed for the recycling market, can sell for more than three times the original scrap price. In July, the INTCO team visited BASURAMA and recommend a new solution: a GM water cooling system. The foam, cutting, water-cooling, and self-packing systems are fully automated with only one worker to operate. This automated system helps BASURAMA save labor and improve recycling efficiency. So in September, they ordered an M-C200E hot-melt water cooling system to increase production capacity.

As practitioners of the foam industry, you are responsible for the waste generated. INTCO helps companies like BASURAMA get the waste foam to the right place to reintegrate it into the value chain. People will continue to face a challenging future for the planet, and INTCO can provide the best foam machines to help meet that challenge.
