Why there is still a long way to go in polystyrene recycling industry

According to the newest statistics, people now consume about a million plastic bottles every minute, 91 percent of them are not recycled. And the rapid growing consumption of single-use polystyrene plastic can be clearly found in the form of the mountainous foam wastes, as well as pollution on our sidewalks, along waterways. Plastic that is littered or blown out of waste bins makes polystyrene recycling more difficult.

In fact, up to 8 million metric tons of plastic disposals enter the world's oceans every year, which takes hundreds of years to be degraded by the nature. As we know that around 9.2 billion metric tons of plastic produced since the 1950s isn't going anywhere anytime soon. At this rate, our oceans will contain more plastic than fish by 2050.That is a terrible case if we continue to overuse Styrofoam, especially in food and industrial packaging area without making any considerable recycling solution.

One of the dominant ways to recycle EPS efficiently is to resort to foam recycling machines, they are mainly divided into two major categories, one is cold compactor and the other one is hot-melting compactor, why it is of great importance to use foam compactors to recycle foam disposals, because they can compress those foams into highly-densified blocks, 50 times smaller than previous volume in the form of cold compressing technology, and 90 to 1 reduction ratio under the heating technology.

There are several reasons can be generalized to make an explanation to this problem in some extent. Firstly, most people have no exact idea which material can be put into blue bins, that causes some materials which are originally can be recycled, but now have been contaminated, so the sorting cost increases a lot.

Secondly, the transportation fee is also very high in recycling Styrofoam, to many small businesses and individual recyclers, they normally lack of recycling machines and investment in haulers, last but not least, people tend to think that polystyrene plastics are worthless to be recycled and they are also harmful to the nature, based on the misconceptions about polystyrene recycling.

Although there is still a long way to build a complete polystyrene recycling system, but with the help of GREENMAX polystyrene compactor, we can achieve that goal in the future.
