EPE Densifier Upgrade – Smarter, Cleaner Packaging Recycling

Large furniture such as tables, cabinets, sofas, and fragile pieces with glass doors or mirrors are often protected with large amounts of EPE foam to ensure they arrive intact at retail stores during transportation.

EPE is soft and elastic, and can be cut into corner protectors, sheets, and other forms to fit different shapes and sizes of furniture. It also offers good moisture resistance and thermal insulation, preventing damage or deformation during transit.

Most importantly, PE foam can now be truly recycled and reused through an EPE densifier, making it part of the circular economy.

In the past, this type of packaging material was often discarded and landfilled. Today, EPE foam can be pelletized into recycled PE granules, which are then used to produce packaging, agricultural pipes, and other products. This not only prevents environmental pollution but also opens up a new revenue stream for furniture manufacturers, since both PE blocks and pellets have high economic value.

If a furniture manufacturer’s main need is simply to handle accumulated PE foam packaging, the EPE recycling machine is the most suitable EPE recycling solution. The EPE densifier shreds and compresses waste packaging into dense PE foam blocks with a reduction ratio of up to 50:1, which can be sold directly to downstream pelletizing plants.

Conventional cold-press EPE recycling machines use pure screw compression technology with low energy consumption, but they cannot effectively process elastic packaging materials like EPE. After compression, the foam often regains its shape, resulting in poor density reduction and making polyethylene recycling difficult to sustain. To solve this, GREENMAX upgraded the equipment.

The new EPE densifier is equipped with a surface hot-melt system that maintains the low energy use of screw compression while ensuring solid block formation. As the screw extrudes the foam and pushes it to the outlet, the heating system rapidly melts the surface, which then cools and solidifies in the air—effectively preventing the blocks from rebounding or expanding.

GREENMAX EPE recycling machine maximizes the efficiency of EPE recycling and is versatile enough to handle materials like EPS and EPP. In addition, this EPE densifier can be equipped with an automatic cutter and conveyor, enabling high automation and minimizing labor costs.

For furniture factories, accumulated PE foam packaging can be processed into neat, high-density blocks. This not only saves landfill and disposal costs but also allows the blocks to be sold to downstream recyclers, turning waste into value. If you are not familiar with the polyethylene recycling market—such as the pricing or sales channels for PE blocks—GREENMAX can provide one-stop guidance for EPE recycling.
