GREENMAX Styrofoam Compactor for a High-Tech Manufacturer's EPS Packaging Waste
A high-tech manufacturer generating 10–15 bags of EPS packaging waste each day needed a better way to manage the material on site. Loose foam was taking up warehouse space, while a third-party waste contractor collected it once or twice a week at a reported cost of US$500–600 per collection.

Daily EPS Waste and Frequent Paid Collections
EPS packaging was a regular waste stream from the manufacturer’s production and supply-chain activities. Although light in weight, the discarded foam occupied considerable space before collection. With another 10–15 bags added each day, the factory needed room to hold the material between contractor visits.
Collections took place one or two times per week. At US$500–600 per visit, the service represented a recurring disposal expense. The customer wanted to reduce its reliance on loose-foam collection and prepare the EPS for material recovery.
The bag count helped describe the storage problem, but it did not establish the weight of foam generated. Equipment selection therefore needed to consider the actual packaging and handling requirements rather than treating bags as a measure of hourly capacity.
GREENMAX Styrofoam Compactor to Recycle EPS Adapted to the Site
GREENMAX configured an Styrofoam compactor A-C100 for the customer’s waste stream. The machine uses crushing and mechanical compression to turn loose EPS into compact blocks without melting the material. Larger packaging pieces enter the crushing section, where they are reduced in size before reaching the compression stage. The processed EPS is then formed into blocks that can be collected and stored for shipment.
For this project, equipment cleanliness was part of the brief. The customer followed 5S workplace practices and wanted to limit foam fragments escaping into the surrounding area during crushing. GREENMAX added a protective curtain and cover to help contain scattered pieces around the processing area. These additions supported the customer’s housekeeping requirements and made the configuration more suitable for its production environment.
From Loose Packaging to EPS Blocks
The Styrofoam compactor changes how the factory can store and dispatch its EPS waste. Instead of holding loose bags until the next disposal visit, the site can accumulate compact blocks for downstream recycling.
Densified material makes better use of storage and transport space. However, the actual reduction in collection frequency and disposal expense depends on the quantity processed, block storage arrangements and the agreed shipping schedule. The EPS blocks can be offered to INTCO Recycling or another downstream recycler, subject to the buyer’s acceptance requirements. Confirming material quality and collection arrangements helps establish a workable route for the recovered foam.
